Re: Mixing Rhodium Sulfate for Plating Solution

I have an opportunity to buy a quantity of "Rhodium Sulfate, 99.99%, (as Rh) min. 35.9%, 250mg".  The owner is fairly clueless - as am I - but thinks this can be mixed to a tank/brush plating solution with sulfuric acid and distilled water but didn't know the ratios.

Can anyone help me here?  My wife might get just a bit upset if I blow up the house or turn my lungs green.

Thanks,

Jay

Re: Mixing Rhodium Sulfate for Plating Solution

Hi Jaydk,

Im a small job shop manager and have had some fits with Rhodium in the recent past.

I hope this helps, this is my bath make up.

per the metal finishing guidebook on rhodium plating

Rhodium as sulfate concentrate, 1.3-2 g/L
Sulfuric Acid(95% Cp grade), 25-80 ml/L

Anodes, Platinum/ Platinum clad

Temp: 40-50 deg C
Agitation, none to moderate
Current density, 2-10 A/dm2

I got my Rhodium sulfate from Technic Inc.
