AESF For The Future Business Plan

On April 12 Southern Metal Finishing announced that we agreed to participate and provide leadership on a committee formed to be an independent think tank for the purpose of first saving, then re-invigorating the AESF. For the last 6 weeks, with the help of Bert Sherwood and a few AESF loyalists, we have developed the draft of a professional business plan that outlines a new path – and a new way to look at the future direction of the Society.

Over the course of the next several months our committee will present, discuss and fine tune this business plan draft with as many branches and branch leaders as possible. This feedback will then be incorporated into a final Business Plan and subsequently re-submitted to the Council of Delegates in early September 06 for future motions to be developed prior to the Sur-Fin 2006 meeting.

The fundamentals of our plan incorporate the three most important values that we feel AESF members appreciate and would like to keep:

* Education
* Fellowship
* Tradition

Those of us whose careers were touched by and in some cases made possible by the AESF should be able to say that they personally did everything in their power to help AESF maintain it’s independence as the premier educational society in the metal finishing industry throughout the world. With each of adding our thoughts and ideas to this business plan draft, the merits of merging, or not merging, with other associations in the industry will become blatantly obvious.

The business plan that we have drafted was created to be a starting point for our current and future board and officers. We hope that it will turn their discussions, dialog, and rhetoric into something more productive for AESF. Before any additional time and energy is spent by our leaders on the merger, we feel that a plan of this nature should be fully examined before anything else is done.
