Topic: Hands on Experience for Inman, SC Chemistry Students

On May 8, 2008, Hubbard-Hall hosted the first bi-annual visit from
local high school students at the Inman, SC facility. Twenty-five
students from Chapman High School were selected by their chemistry
teacher to take part in a “hands on” learning experience and to witness
how chemistry can be applied in the workplace. The agenda for the day
was developed by Scott Papst and Dr. Doug Patton.

During the half-day visit, Hubbard-Hall chemists and technicians
demonstrated various laboratory techniques. The exercises included
Oxidation/Reduction titrations, Infrared spectrafratometry and Ion
chromatography presented by Dr. Patton, Dr. Yin Li, John Lyon and Larry
Ensley. Dr. Patton also met with the students and addressed the various
projects he has worked on during his tenure, just under 8 years, with
Hubbard-Hall.

The visit concluded with lunch provided by Hubbard-Hall, which also gave the students an opportunity for discussion.

The day was a success, and a special thank you goes out to Brent
Burleson and Dr. Patton for coordinating the event and to all employees
who participated.
