Topic: Spec for Pretreatment of Hot & Cold Rolled Steel ?

We have a customer requesting a Spec for the Pretreatment of Hot & Cold Rolled Steel; and we are looking to see if one exists out there.  We are currently using a 5-Stage Iron Phosphate Pretreatment process for all of our parts.

Thank you.

Re: Spec for Pretreatment of Hot & Cold Rolled Steel ?

Technically there is no industry standard specification for pretreatment. The standards that are most common are from a specific industry, ie military, federal, and heavy equipment, etc..

If your customer would like to create their own specs, it can be done. I have listed some spec examples below:

Federal: TT490E Chemical Conversion Coatings and Pretreatments for Ferrous Surfaces

Military. MIL: DTL 5541F Chemical Conversion Coatings on Aluminum Alloys

Caterpillar: 1E4093, CHG NO 07, 2-7-2008 Paint-Phosphate Pretreatment Chemicals for Metallic Substrates.

Hope this helps
