etching 12L14

Hi

I have problems with acid zinc plating (blisters). I'm sure that it is coused by smeared lead. I will try tetrafluoroboric acid this week to remove smears. This acid is expencive, so I wonder why can't I use 10% HNO3 instead of it.

Can somebody tell me why it must be tetrafluoroboric acid used?
