Hello every one! I am new to this forum, but I like what I have seen
so far. I have been in Metal Finishing for 20+ Years. Most of this has
been as a Chemist for a small Metal Finishing Company which specialized
in the Metal Finishing of aircraft/aerospace hardware.
I now work for another small company, Mid West Metal Finishing. We do mostly commercial work for now. But we are a growing company that is planning a major expansion. In the future we plan to add aircraft/aerospace work to our list of work we do. This keeps me busy, since I am now the Quality Assurance Manager.

As I indicated we are not really doing a lot of aircraft/aerospace
work right now. But my understanding is that there is a mandate to
eliminate Hexavalent Chromate Conversion Coatings. I think this partly
due to the work the Navy has done in the development of the Trivalent
Chromium Conversion Coatings. On the commercial side our customers are
just about all wanting the Trivalent Conversion Coating to meet the ROHS
Compliance Issue. I suspect this will soon be industry wide, Hexavalent
Chromium Coatings will become a thing of the past. Since the
Trivalent Chromium Conversion Coatings are now meeting the Salt Spray Requirements of Mil-DTL-5541 (Formerly Mil-C-5541) and are now on the QQPL. The only thing I have not figured out yet is how they are going to find
a replacement for the Sodium Dichromate Seal for anodize. I don't think there
is a good seal to take its place.
