I am not a metallurgist, and that is why I need help. I build banjo ukuleles, and would like to start getting some metal components plated in nickel. The components would be 360 brass, 1/8' thick x 5/8" wide, rolled into an 8" diameter hoop. The hoops will be under a fair amount of tension, as they serve to pull the sythetic skin head of the instrument to tension. My question involves a method of closing the hoops that will meet three criteria: A) Strong bond. B) Hopefully can be done with a propane torch. C) (and this is where I really need the help) Can be nickel plated. I see so many products out there (silver solder "easy" "medium" "hard", brazing rod of various compositions, flux coated, flux core, etc) that the choice is overwhelming. What it really boils down to is the being able to be plated over.
