Topic: SWISS ROSE GOLD

I just ran across this reference to Swiss Rose Gold... and noticed that they are saying this finish is "only done in three places in the world"... Just wondering if anyone else out there does this "Swiss Rose Gold"

>>>18kt. SWISS ROSE GOLD:  A truly beautiful, rich, sumptuous plating.  The color of the gold is a striking light rose color.  The plating method used is unique and only done in three places in the world.  The Rose Gold plating on my pens is done in the U.S.A. by a premier exotic plating company, and each part is done one at a time.  The color is achieved by mixing copper and gold; then, using an extremely unusual process, the 18kt. Rose Gold can be deposited in a very thick layer with extremely strong bonding to the sub-plating.  Durability is very good and way beyond most any other kind of gold plating.<<<

Re: SWISS ROSE GOLD

I think the only reason it is only done in three places is expense, Rolex is the only watch maker that could make money on it.

This would be a cyanide bath with custom made ingots much like a brass bath but instead of copper and zink it would be gold and copper, the ingots would be special made to the right composite for proper distribution on the cathode.  The only thing I doubt about this is a tarnish factor.  Is the gold enough to this from this happening?

Re: SWISS ROSE GOLD

Ha - You may be right... but that text came from a company selling high end pens.  I suspect that its just hype and there are more like 300 places around the world that plate this Swiss Rose Gold.  In fact I think our friends down at Techno Coatings in Miami do it an 5 other versions of it.
