WEST CHESTER, Pa. (AP) — West Chester-based spinal implant device maker Synthes Inc. says it will buy a San Diego company, N Spine Inc., for $30 million.

Synthes says that price can increase by up to $45 million if certain development, marketing and regulatory milestones are met.

Synthes has its world headquarters in West Chester and European headquarters in Switzerland. It employs about 1,400 people in Chester County and nearly 8,800 worldwide.

N Spine's products include a rod designed to stabilize the spine while preserving mobility. The company's staff of about 15 will continue to work in San Diego.
