Topic: Chroming baby shoes
Hello all
I have a small chrome plating shop, mostly chroming motorcycle parts.I have the usual tanks, acid copper, nickel strike, bright nickel, chrome and the acid dips and cleaner tanks.I have a new grand daughter and would like to chrome her first pair of shoes. My question is. Does anybody have a home brew or a place I can get a small amount of whatever they use to make the shoes conductive. And maybe the steps needed to get them coppered(I think I can get it from there).I know it would be easier and probably cheaper to send them to a shop that does this all the time, but I would like to do them myself.
Thanks for any help
Tim

Get yourself a copy of the Metal Finishing Guidebook & Directory. THe Guidebook has a section on plating on non-conductors. You should find some usewful information in the chapter. Their web address is www.metalfinishing.com.

Re: Chroming baby shoes
Hi Tim,
Try using a silver conductive paint. www.caswellplating.com sell it in 8oz tin.
Clean the shoes with warm soapy water, dry then airbrush the paint on. Leave to dry for approx. 45mins (No pre-treatment) then straight into either Cu or we go into sulphamate Ni. From there the choice is yours!
We use it for plating plastics, wood etc.........and it works.
Good luck
Ian
