Topic: zinc plating

Hi, everyone. It is my first time been here,I hope can learn from you.

we have get a request from customer, substrate is Al, require zinc plating but not care about corrosion resistance, only care about solderablity, is somebody has experience with this?

Thanks!

Re: zinc plating

Are you sure they want zinc for solderability and not tin?

While searching around, I found this thread which describes zinc alloys:

Re: zinc plating

Thanks for your information.

It looks that they should ask for zinc-tin deposit.

Re: zinc plating

I have a problem with plating evaporators using in refrigerators. I use acid zinc electrolyte. In the middle of evaporators appear roughness (in the area of low current density) which is more noticeable after lacquering. In higher current density surface is smooth. Could somebody explain this? What is reason?

Re: zinc plating

Max - what type of filtration do you have set up for this Acid Zinc tank and how big is the tank?

Re: zinc plating

The tank has aprox. 60 m3. The tank is divided on 6 parts. I have set up typical filter pump for electroplating process with plastic separotors (if you want see klick on the link: http://www.asmega.com/sez/04pro/05acc.asp?usrLAN=1& - pic. on the right down).

Re: zinc plating

Hello,

could you already solve your problem? If not what are your settings while plating (curent density, pH, which company is your chemical supplier?) To give you an answer we would need more infromations.
