Topic: Help needed on selection of raw material !

Hello to all...

I was wondering if anyone here can offer help in the selection of raw material for very harsh conditions.

The coating will be applied on to a zinc treated steel surface. The coating must be able to withstand high temperature (more than 250 degree celcius) for more than 250 hours without undergoing colour changes (non-yellowing/weather resistant).

Can anyone offer any advise on what type of resin or system that can be applied for such conditions?

Thank you.

I think there are a few powder coatings that can withstand that temperature once they have been properly cured.  Also, you may want to look into the ceramic-type coatings used for automobile exhaust systems.  They typically run hotter than 250C with little to no color changes.

Hello lwl18,

There is another discussion thread called "Exhaust Powder Coating" that may be helpful.  We talked about it on Finishing Talk Live Episode 7 too.

Good luck and let us know what you end up using.

Thanks for the info shared Paul and Dustin.

I'll definitely look into ceramic coatings. However, I might not be able to post up a reply that soon regarding the final material I will use as the project is still in the midst of discussion.

Will post up a reply asap so that others can obtain the info as well.
