Hello Skip,

Again, I can't thank you enough for your participation in the Finishing Talk Community Forums.

When I create a post (like this one) - here is what I do to get it right. First I draft the post here in the "write message" dialogue box. Then I cut the text and paste it into word for spell check and final edit (and removing all of my double spacing between sentences). Next I past it in a basic text pad document. Finally I cut/copy it from the text pad back into the "write message" box.

After I click submit I review it to make sure I didn't miss anything, and if I did I quickly do an edit (again usually taking out all of my double spaces), and resubmit it. It didn't used to be this cumbersome, but the site is continually evolving, and sometimes during this evolution you can hit a few speed bumps - this formatting issue is a good example of that. We will have this worked out soon.

Please make no mistake, even thou …

Hello All,

I've been out of the country for a few days or I would have responded to this one earlier. There is a weird bug in our system that creates those little question marks in the text. I have personally been going back to edit them out, and will have to continue to do so for a few more months, or until we can spend more than a few bucks to get the techs to review the code and find the culprit causing this weirdness.

One thing that causes this is having two or more "spaces" together in the text - like this...      When you post text, if you will leave out the normal two spaces in between sentences etc. it will eliminate many of these. Or please just go ahead and post your message, and I'll come back by and clean them up for you myself.

A couple of other tricks and tips I've learned while I have been moderating and cleaning up the postings are. If you write your text in a text pad it will make for a cleaner post. I …

Hello Skip, I sort of felt like I was reading a new form of Skeltonese ..... (our regular poster Paul Skelton who knows exactly what I'm talking about). But I certainly agree on both of your points. 1.) If you have something to say or a question about about any of the thousands of older postings- please feel free to add on to the thread. and 2.) always try to include all of the relevant info so the other members have a chance of sharing good and relevant info with you - (obvious but often overlooked).

The purpose of this forum is to share information and knowledge about the Surface Finishing Industry in an effort to help perpetuate its future..... and I'd like to thank you for being a part of that effort.

Oh yea - and about the edit thing..... there are some bugs with our sites editor program so if you have a problem with editing your post let me know and either myself or one of the other admins will help you clear it up.

Cheers!

Hey Skelton - check this out. I just read your posting and did a
quick search on Ni Sulfamate I found this info..... It is from the
NMFRC website, and is a paper that was given at Sur-Fin 1954! It
doesn't necessarily talk about the analysis asked for in the original
posting - but Its still pretty interesting.

Here is a list of things you'll need for your MEK Rub test (AKA ASTM D4752)

Cotton cheesecloth
32 oz. ball peen hammer
Methyl ethyl ketone (MEK)
Ventilation

Procedure
Wrap 16 layers of cheesecloth around the ball end of the hammer and attach with a rubber band.

Saturate the cheesecloth in MEK and place on the panel to be tested.

Place the hammer handle in the palm of your hand and hold the handle parallel to the floor.

Strokes:
The length of each stroke is to approximately four inches.
Count a forward and backward stroke as one rub (a cycle).
Perform the rub pattern in the same location.
No additional weight should be added to the hammer.

Re: Heat Treatment [ Started by maldonado in General Discussion : 8 replies ]

Bonjour Dustin, I have to admit, I was not aware of the etiquette that you are referring to, and I can certainly appreciate your comments, because as you know I am your biggest fan.

But let me just say this.... I created this specifically forum for the transfer of information, the dissemination of knowledge to do with the Surface Finishing Industry. So I have to ask.... what harm is it if an old post is brought back to life as this one was?? (as long as it is relevant to our industry)

I was just with several people from Bodycote in France and Germany when this post was made, and I have to say I was very proud to see it alive again as I was meeting with them to explain the importance of the above and the forums in general.

Please respond to this position when you have time. As always - with respect, and gratitude for your participation.

Sincerely,

Re: The Chinese Pollution Monster [ Started by Dedalus in Manufacturing : 15 replies ]

Hello Monica,  Sorry it took me so long to respond to your earlier comments on this China Pollution thread... I wanted to do a little research before I wrote back.

A local manufacturer of hand tools in the US recently shared with me that their permissible limit of discharge for CAD. You have said that the limit for CAD discharge in China is >>0.1mg/L and 0.05mg/L for any new... companies<<   The CAD discharge limit at this particular facility is 0.015 mg/l – which I believe to be a common acceptable discharge level all over the country !  I'm no doctor - but I have to believe that 10x more CAD in discharged water can not be a good thing.

I understand your comment about China being a developing Country.  I also realize that so many mistakes have been made here in the US, and in Europe before China started to "develop" so when Chinese regulations are set below the standards that others before them have found to …
